A bit about the site
You will notice that the navigation bar includes symbols and headings. These are to direct you to the content which interests you.
① ② ③ digest
offers a chosen text serialised in successive posts. Playing at present: part 1 of my work, Bergson, Deleuze & Cinema, on cinematic time and the moving images that we are, Enduring Dreams.
@ outside light
is where you are right now.
⚗ theory
I hesitated about whether to call this theory or philosophy. My background is in artistic research in theatre, not philosophy then but artistic research or practice-as-research which includes, since it is a form of practice-as-research, writing. This leads me to writing and theatre, these forms of research, as tools or technologies. My considerations of cinema and technology itself follow from this. The symbol is an alembic, its import, the formal experimentation, inspired by the philosophy and theory of Deleuze and Guattari, implied by this method: not Critical Theory, then but, creative theory.
✍ journal
is notes, interests, quotes, garnered by chance or from my reading at the moment that strike me as worth sharing, or my viewing, or from looking out, something Deleuze in the Abécédaire says the philosopher shares with the animal – hence, outside light.
؎ a|poetry
is writing, a writing practice, which pays attention to the sounds and outsides of the words. The symbol ؎ gives in Arabic an orthographic indication of lineation.
❡ other writing
contains scripts, pieces in prose, not covered by the categories above.
⏚ resources | links
squarewhiteworld.com has a lot of these, links to websites and pages across the internet, as it used to be when I started that weblog. I hope to transfer as many as I can here, to outside light. The symbol is the electrical one for an earth. It adduces to dark round earth, flipside of square white world, and here is perhaps where I will add links for other projects, like the planned RP(received pronunciation) lecture series, podcast and vlog.
Thanks for visiting!
Best,
Simon
